Because their useful, and dont need to die?

As for using expert salvage vs. normal. I have my own rule of thumb:

If its an enemy armor, I'll expert salvage it hoping for leather sqaure or steel ingot IF it is 30+ AL. Thats the later half of the game armors. I found their rate for giving the rare materials is much better than say..that armor that the lvl6 charr drops (like 15AL). I just normal salvage those, or just sell to merchant.

And if its a random weapon - I only expert it if its in the top percentage of dmg. a 13-26 bow will usually give MUCH more wood than a 4-5 bow dropped in ascalon. Those low dmg weapons dont even deserve to be normal salvaged - they give like 2-3 of them materals- that doesn't even make up for the cost of that salvage kit use.

People dont like expert slavaging? do they not realzie that even if they only get 4-5 rare materials out of the 25 uses - They are still turning profit off the 400gp kit? Only thing I HATE getting thats rare is Silk - Silk sells for less than half of the normal materials..

How do you watch the pricing? Do you have to go visit each trader or are they all the same no mater who you go to?

All traders in each city have the same stock. A couple of months ago they used to differ from continent to continent, but Anet changed it so the traders were international. (As well as screwed up the prices, but let's not get into that...)

why is it that if someone makes a new post about something covered in a past post, that everyone jumps down there throat about "use the search button", YET when they do, and they "resurect" an old thread that pertains to whatever they have to post/say, then they get people complaining about that too? you people need to figure out what you want to complain about and stick too it.

Remember collectors armor, weapons and sheilds dont effect your play. And bones i think are the most common and expensive materials. So try to find a place were you can find those fast and sell em to a merchent

HoH= Hall of Heroes
Farming= going to the same area over and over killing mass amounts of monsters by yourself in order to get rare items to sell for money.

I've got mayb 300k but I'd have alot more If I'd stop spending it on crap. I deleted my mesmer and he had a fissure chest piece on him...... I don't do anything special. I farm griffons from time to time and I farmed tengu for a while and got 2 sup vigors and a sub absorption from them. But I hardly ever farm at all. If you already have money I'd invest mayb 20-30k in keys and go chest farming.

I have been playing through the game with my third character (a ranger) and i've got in to the habbit of just leaving stuff on the floor unless it's coloured or is a material, it's really bad.

One of my bags is full of bows collected by my warrior farmer and the belt pouch is full of glowing hearts, charcoal and random keys from farming.

My storage is completly full with materials (slots are taken not at 250 on each though)

I just seem to look at a low level weapon as being worth nothing, i guess i just need to get back in to the habbit of slavaging things again.

When griffon farming i find it's best not to slavage any weapons as they are nearly all worth 90g which is normally more than the materials i'd get from them would be worth.

I had 150k this morning then all these pretty ranger items kept turning up now i have 100k.

What I do is salvage wood, iron, and dust; every so often I'll have parchment crafted just outside of Sardelac Sanctum. Once I have 100 parchment, I'm off to Droks to sell it for about ~10k. After visiting the Sardelac artisan, I'll clear the map of elementals hoping for charcoal to drop. I usually net one, if not two, during the 5 minute clear run; I'll also clear the map outside of Serenity Temple for charcoal as well. Once I have 10 charcoal, it's off to Crafter Magnor, NW of Droks, to have Deldrimor Steel crafted. A quick map to Granite, Marhans, and Droks to sell the Deldrimor, if not, it goes to the merchant. 'Big money' is relative, but I find this the most profitable way to recycle. Everything else that's salvaged goes to the merchant, unless I buy new armor.

I've never had a stone elemental drop charcoal for me. I've only seen them drop off Fire Imps . . .

They do drop charcoal, right outside Serenity Temple is great for farming them (get some dyes too).

Of course, some people swear by UW farming- one person comes to mind who has 4,400,000 gold across four accounts and 388 ectoplasm. And four sets of complete FoW armor on each monk... They've farmed Underworld... ALOT.

UW and FoW farming can be VERY profitable, as can Ettins, or griffons, but as the OP said, materials is the best standby. And just watch your outflow carefully. Before every purchase, ask if you need, how much you need it, and when you need it. Really, salvage/id/expert salvage kits are all you need. 10/10 sundering adds about 0.4 damage on average, don't blow your money on "perfect" mods, or that pwnage looking weapon.

That said, I am now relative poor due to buying about a whole bunch of 15k armor. So much for vanity purchasing, eh?

I collected 99 of those for my best friend, for her birthday. She doesn't play anymore, but everytime I see a red iris flower, I smile.

Yes. The more NPC henchies you take into your party will decrease the drops assigned to you as the henchies will take some. If you want loads of drops from farming then you're better of going solo.
